Hello, I'm Shane
I take photos because life is boring through a normal lens. Staying in one place too long makes me restless. Photography is how I move — even when I’m standing still.
There’s music in people. Art in architecture. Mood in nature. When I’m in photographer mode, I disappear into it. It’s not about followers or applause. It’s how I stay sane. A camera’s not a tool — it’s a time machine, a spaceship, a way out and a way deeper in.
If my photos make you feel something - cool. But I’m doing this either way.
More About Me
I arrived in Seattle with nothing but my car, a playlist of nu-metal, shoegaze and British pop, and zero safety net—no place to live, no job, and not a single friend in town. True story: I slept in that car until I found a room to rent. That kind of leap has defined my journey.
Within a year, I was fronting a nu-metal band with a solid local following, unleashing my inner screamer on Seattle stages. Eventually, I hung up the mic to produce my own music, before spending five years as a DJ spinning tracks across the city.
Photography found me during a wild three-month European adventure—working on an Austrian horse farm and rescuing street cats in Spain. I returned to Seattle technically homeless again, but carrying something far more valuable: a collection of images that had captured my heart and a burning certainty that I'd found my true creative voice.
My photography thrives on dreamy storytelling with a hint of dystopian melancholy. The images I create often spring from the kaleidoscope of inspiration swirling in my head: fragments of films that haunt me; passages from poets and philosophers, lyrics lodged in my consciousness, and the surreal visuals that play behind my eyelids when a perfect song hits.
There's nothing I love more than solo travel—just me, my camera, and my headphones. Getting lost in foreign streets with a soundtrack perfectly matched to the scene unfolding before me is my definition of bliss. These wanderings have become essential to how I see and capture the world.
When I'm not capturing my dreamy stories, I'm finishing up my studies into the psychology of digital spaces as a UX Researcher and Writer. This fascination with how humans interact with the world, and not just technology complements my visual work in surprising ways. Additionally I am a voracious reader - current authors include: Kafka, Faulkner, Bukowski, Hamsun and more.
I'm also the creator of Cool Cupcake Costume Immersion, an experimental project where imagination and self-expression collide in unexpected, playful ways. It's where I push creative boundaries beyond traditional photography - www.coolcupcake.org
From sleeping in my car to creating immersive visual experiences—the journey hasn't been conventional, but that's exactly the point.
